The question pretty much says it all. I am wanting a cat but my roommate has allergies. Would keeping the cat in my room, and out of both the living room and his room, keep him from having an allergic reaction?

I sneeze when around cat hair, do you think a Sphinx (hairless) cat would be ok?

I LOVE cats to death but have really bad allergies.. they are definitely worse with long hair cats than short.. but would a cat with no hair be better? I can’t take medication.

If I got a cat, I would get an air purifier, take allergy pills, and bathe the cat with a special shampoo once a month. Do you think that, by doing this, I will have completely no reaction to the cat?
EDIT: I have mild allergies!!

If so, how expensive are they, could I give them to myself rather than going in once a week like I did 35 years ago as a kid ? (For general allergies at the time, not cat specific)

What about doubling up on Zyrtec ?

Im making huge progress with my feral kitten and she is letting me pet her as long as I come outside to do it. I try to wash my hands right after each time but it seems to be affecting my eyes anyway. And I already use Alaway for eye allergies.

Thanks !

And if I bathed my cat once a month, take medication, and got an air purifier, would my allergies go away? (With a shorthaired cat?)

I can pet my neighbour’s cat for a short time and stay in their house but I would have to wash my hands immediately after petting the cat.

I have mild-ish cat allergies and I’m desperate for a Ragdoll kitten. I have heard that these cats are hypo-allergenic? I get itchy-red-watery eyes around regular cats. Would the Ragdoll do the trick? Any allergic owners who have had experiences with this breed? Thanks so much.
