can you develop allergies to a cat you’ve had for a long time?Posted by: Alan in cat allergies treatment, tags: allergies, develop, long, time, you'vemy aunt has 4 cats. 2 for many years, the other 2 for about a year now. she lets them all over the house, on the furniture, etc. she doesn’t have allergies, but she has been sick for a while now and my mom suspects it’s a reaction to the cats. is it possible to develop allergies from cats you’ve been around for a long time or are there long-term side effects of living with cats even if you’re not technically allergic?

Is it possible to desensitize myself from my cat allergies by spending time with them?Posted by: Alan in cat allergies treatment, tags: allergies, desensitize, from, myself, possible, spending, them, timeI grew up with 5 cats and never had allergy symptoms until I went away to college and came back and developed some rashes. After a few days , they disappeared. Now (at 33) I just got 2 new kittens and my allergies are real bad (runny nose, sneezing, eyes, etc.). Is it possible that with time, my allergies will go away or is this permanent? Hoping not the latter, but may be a reality that I need to face. I’ll prb. head to an allergist butr looking to see if anyone had firsthand experience about this? Thanks for your help! Doug |
