My roommate’s girlfriend, who is here about one or two days a week, is allergic to cats, so I’d like to adopt a cat that will not offend her. What kind should I adopt? Are there other suggestions to make my house allergy-friendly (e.g., only keep the cat in my room, off counters, etc.)?

I live by myself and I would love to have a kitten. I called around some pet stores and shelters and was told that spring time is kitten season. So, I’m seriously looking into it because I’ll have the cat for a long time. My big concern is that I have allergies. I don’t know if I’m allergic to cats though. I play with my friends cat sometimes and I have no problems, but I don’t know about living with one. What breed of cats is good for someone with allergies? I know that there are hypoallergenic dogs. Are there hypoallergenic cats? And please don’t tell me to get a hairless cat. They don’t appeal to me.

I have a chronic illness with lots of allergies, now including cats. My Dr says I should not have pets but we have a lovely cat, Clarence with health problems, which sometimes I find hard to cope with. My husband doesn’t want to part with him and neither do I but he gets sick a lot and I find it very stressful. I love Clarence dearly, but should we rehome him for the sake of my health?

I have mild cat allergies and a friend told me about a simple solution that didn’t involve medication. I forgot what it was though. Does anyone have any natural remedies to allergies?

My boyfriend and I are house sitting for some friends and I have pretty bad cat allergies. For the past several years I’ve taken benadryl around my friend’s cats which works out okay, but I’m never around them for more than a few hours….
I will be spending the night in a house with cats and I want to know for allergies (itchy eyes, really itchy skin, sometimes hives) what kind of medicine would be most effective.
