I’ve just moved into a new apartment, only to learn the previous tenant owned a cat. Unfortunately, I have allergic reactions to cats. I’ve tried cleaning the carpets, candles, sprays, allergy medicine.. the works.. other than moving, what can I do to relieve my symptoms better?

If you have a carpet in your new apartment and can’t get rid of it, rent a carpet cleaning machine and clean it for good.

Move each big appliances (fridge, stove, etc.) and clean behind them.

On a nice day, open all windows and doors and let the air flow in the apartment.

Keep in mind you could be allergic to something else. If you still have problems, consult an allergist. You could be also allergic to dust or something!

    Good luck!

Try getting an air purifier with HEPA filters. It’s costly to keep up the filters, but it will save your sinuses in the long run as cat danders tend to stay in a place for years even if the cat is no longer there.

Other than that, you can also go to your doctor/allergist and get stronger medications to take.

I know, I have allergies & I have a cat which I love and won’t give up, so I find other ways to live with it.
